PRIMANIMA will host the annual meeting of the Visegrad Animation Forum board from all coordinating countries. The short presentation to the public is followed by the selection of VAF New Talents 2016.
What is the Visegrad Animation Forum?
The VAF is one of the most important platforms for bringing animation professionals from Central and Eastern Europe together and building animation industry in the region. The funding countries are the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia, we work closely with Croatia and Romania, and we are now making new contacts with potential partners, particularly in the Baltic and Balkan countries, to expand our collaborative efforts. The initiative is supported by Creative Europe Media scheme and cooperates with Cartoon Forum, funds and animation institutions across our region.
The VAF creates a space for discussion and exchange of experience among individual countries that share not only historical but also cultural ties. In this way the VAF provides suitable conditions for new co-production relationships and gaining opportunities for project financing. Both for short animated films and for TV-series the VAF facilitates meetings among filmmakers and producers, distributors and TV buyers or commissioning editors, and film industry professionals from across Europe.
The pitching competition of projects in development
This year there are two categories in which to apply: Short Film and Series. The best project of the Short Film section will receive financial support of 2.000 EUR for further development. The winner of the Series category will advance directly to the pitching competition at Cartoon Forum 2017. (The call for entries will open in November 2016 and close in the end of January 2017.)
Interest in the VAF continues to grow, a fact that is attested to by a growing number of projects applying for the pitching competition – with over hundred projects applying for the last edition.
This year Visegrad Animation Rallye is re-named to VAF New Talents. Its main goal remains to promote the best of young filmmakers from our regions in 2016 globally. This year VAF Red Bricks project has been launched too – a collaborative platform for international coproduction within our region and with it.
